Who is the superintendent?

Dr. Jonathan C. Ponds

Does the district accept tuition students?

No. Due to the number of Montclair residents whose children will be enrolling in the public schools, and the classroom space available, tuition students will not be accepted at this time.

In the event of a delayed school opening, what should I do?

Children should be brought to their usual bus stop two hours after the usual time. Buses will run as usual in the event of a delayed school opening. Parents may also drop their children off at school. If your child’s school normally opens at 9:00 a.m., for example, the delayed opening would be at 11:00.

If it starts snowing during school hours, will the schools close?

Most likely, schools will remain open until the usual dismissal time. See full discussion of delayed and cancelled school openings.

Is there a handbook available that states district policies on matters like student conduct, discipline, bullying, suspensions, etc.?

An information packet is sent home from the schools at the beginning of each school year which addresses district and school policies about student conduct and discipline.

How can I get more information about the school district?

If you don’t find the information you’re looking for on this website, the Board of Education building at 22 Valley Road is open between 8 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding district holidays. The main number is (973) 509-4000. Forms, calendars, district policies, the current school budget, and other printed materials are free and available to the public at the Board Office.
